Drama in the NICU

Here's our wee trooper last night (Monday 22 March) during the drama when his Billy Ruban (yes, I do know how to spell it properly but I choose not to) blanket died AND THE HOSPITAL DID NOT HAVE A BACK UP (in fact, the one he was on was a borrowed Billi-blanket). Sam said the hospital was calling all the other hospitals in Brisbane to get a replacement... and it took over an hour.
While he was not all hooked up Sam'n'Shane got a 20 second cuddle and this photo. Needless to say Sam and Shane were not happy... Sam said "I said to Shane, if they don't get a light in here SOON the next phone call that is going to be made is TO THE MEDIA" and Shane offered to the nurses, "so, shall I pop down to Bunnings and get a spare, OR WHAT?". While they were waiting they rigged up a little tent made of aluminium foil and they made Colt share his bed with the 3 working lamps with another baby ("a big fat girl of 9lb") who kept crying and making a fuss... to which Colt kept looking at her as if to say "if you want to share my bed you have to be quiet!". Too funny!
The thing on his arm is his IV and it is quite heavy. He often hits himself in the head with it and tries to suck his thumb on that hand.

Family photos!

Yahoo, finally more pictures of Pony Boy and his parents!!!!! Isn't he adorable? Don't you wish you were in Australia right now just kissing the life out of those cute wee cheeks?
Certainly not a bad photo considering what Sam has just been through
He's out!

The family (minus Favourite Aunty Suzy, Jack and Tom)

Frankly, I think he is OVER all the fuss and just wants a sleep.
It isn't his fault he is so cute and beautiful that everyone wants to go mad
with cameras and such...

Le Race - Christchurch to Akaroa

My dear, sweet friend Lesley gave me the option of biking Le Race with her a few weeks ago... I politely declined since it is only for the TOTALLY INSANE (maybe next year, Lesley) so instead I was her support crew today... In the first picture she is just coming up to Top of the Mountain, and only two more hills to go.... and the close shot is her coming into the finish line - and looking great! She is a MACHINE!

My new nephew, Colt Robison!

I dare say he won't be impressed that I am posting sleeping pictures of him with bandaids on his face, but it's all i've got and i think he is beautiful :) He is in the light bath due to some jaundice, and he is dealing with some other stuff - but basically he is okay and I'll be going over to see him soon. Sigh, he is finally here!!!

My last ESOL class

Twice a year I teach ESOL (English) to kids on a holiday programme from Korea (Feb) and Japan (July/Aug). In the morning I teach them English and in the afternoon they get to do all kinds of fun stuff (jet boating, horse riding, ice skating, boating, hot pools etc) that they would never do at home. We have a farwell party for them (kind of like a concert, they do maori dancing that they learn here in my class, and then they do a bit of a talent show) that my kids love to attend. It is the funnest job in the world, and here are some photos of my last lot of Korean kids

At least twice a week we get them together with the boys at Shirley Boys High to talk and do a bit of cross-cultural communication

Here I am with their teachers, Mrs Lee and Mr Kim at the zoo

he he he, i am so mean. None of them have ever set foot on grass before and i make them go outside and take off their shoes and socks and run around... they always hate it and try to avoid it for as long as possible!

Doing customer/shopkeeper roleplays - David was the only boy that didn't make a fuss of wearing the apron, he was such a good sport

and some more pictures....

okay so this picture has nothing to do with cross country, but it is of lucy :) here she is sitting with Cindy at the farewell party for my students last month
I am the "line leader"

My boy, trying his hardest

The most important day of the year according to Sebastien

well as always these photos will be all over the place/not in order but who cares. Today is the Big Day. Nothing is more important than Cross Country and I cannot not be there... Of course this is according to Sebastien - one year Meg was "running" and I walked beside her for the last 100m telling her to go faster because even the kid in the wheelchair was ahead of her... So Lucy ran at 10am and did really well. Seb was stuck in class "doing *work*" while the juniors got to run so I took lots of pictures for him. She didn't get in the front of the start-up line so I was glad Sebas wasn't there to wittness it, but she did really well. She ran the whole 1km and finished about 1/3 into the pack. Sebastien's year group was due to run at 11.30am but they were ahead of schedule so when all the Yr5 boys were warming up (with the student teacher who used to be an All Black....) I had to get someone to go fetch them from their class - can you imagine his fury if they had MISSED THE RACE? Let me just say when those boys got outside and saw the others heading over to the start line they ran like mad! Hats still on, and drink bottles in their hands!! I had to collect his whole classes hats and bottles because they were so freaked out they were going to run with them! Anyway there was some serious elbowing at the start and Seb got pushed to the back but he ran hard the whole way (I think the senior boys do 2km) and got up to the top 1/3. He will not be impressed with that at all, but as I keep telling him, they are all in a major growth period right now and their muscles don't always keep up with their bones... so trying is what counts. It is his first year not being in the top 5, but he did certainly do his best.
