Even snowy my town is beeeeeeeeeeeeautiful!
And guess what, the rubbish truck is outside! 3 days late, but who cares! Thanks Christchurch City Council. Now, where is the postie?
PS Caulis are $4 each and broccolli is $2 a head (TINY) - and these are winter veggies. Can anyone suggest a nice soup to make other than with pumpkin (only $3 each)?

Snow is not the enemy, ice is...
Halarious! The airport is still shut, the shops are empty (of workers and shoppers), the university etc has been shut, there are no buses, the mail can't be delivered and the rubbish isn't going to be picked up... And it is not because of the snow. It's the ice.
Turns out that no one considered the fact that once the snow had finished falling it would stay cold out there so all that snow would turn to ice. I've spent the morning trying to remove the ice between the back door and the garage. I've discovered that just walking on snow causes it to compact/melt/turn to solid ice - and household salt and warm water DOES NOT CLEAR IT. I've had to shovel it up (I started with a pointy shovel and moved onto a spade... much more efficient). I didn't mind since there is no way I could go for a run today, but man, it is heavy! Our road is a skating rink so I'm not driving anywhere either.
And the funniest bit is that Dom, my Canadian boy, didn't even think of any of this. When the snow was falling his kiwi side came to the fore and he went out and played in it. Not once did he say "we had better move this snow while it is soft and light"...

Il neige! Il neige de gros flocons blancs!!
(that is one of Sebas' "bike jumps", made out of a car ramp.... leading onto the back deck, and over to the left the black box is/was my worm farm. I don't know if they can live thru snow... *deep sigh of resignation* )
Unreal.... It's Pioneer Day and we have snow! I think we had snow about 4-5 years ago... and now it is back! Dominic woke up Sebastien (brave move - I didn't think we would get him back into bed, but I guess since it is almost 1am Sebas wasn't totally aware of what was going on) and now the big question is... will the airport be shut tomorrow? Fingers crossed! At least it is the school holidays so the kids won't miss school because of it :)

Sam, J, Chuck... this is going to be hard to watch so brace yourselves xxx
