Lucy's 1st day at school, and Sebas is now a senior!

Another day, another baby off to school... sniff. My darling angel baby Lucy had her 1st day today. She was so excited, happy and keen to get there but I've been dreading it for ages. She is just so fun to be with that I just didn't want to let her go. But she turned 5 in November and I got permission to let her wait till the start of the new school year, and that day has come. Dad came over again to wish her well (another sleepless night of fighting fire - but this one was interesting. A farmer had been piling up horse dung for YEARS and somehow it combusted and caught flame and then a fence caught on fire and the police and fire brigade we called... the farmer admitted to Dad it has been burning for months but he didn't bother to do anything about it. So as Dad put it, he was standing in a pile of flaming poo all night!). When the bell was about to ring she gave me a kiss and said "you can go now Mum" and skipped off to sit on the mat and start learning. I hoofed it before I completely lost the plot, and raced over to my school where I was 40 minutes late for teaching my own class (they were fine without me). After school I was the first parent waiting at the door and when she was me she smiled, then shooed me off with her hand. Too cute! You can see in the pictures that she came outside and gave me a big hug when school was over, then got all cross because she wanted to "walk home with Megane and Sebastien", not me and Papa.... That is when I took the totally dejected, head on knees photo on the classroom steps. She perked up enough to tell us that they did maths today in class, and the letter of the week is L, and at Morning Tea time she didn't get to play on the jungle gym because she had to sit down to eat and it took too long. At lunch she played in the sandpit. Sebastien looked for her at Morning Tea and at lunch but she was too busy to notice him. I should be happy that my little girl is so well adjusted that she started school without any problems at all, but right now I still miss her. I'll get around to being happy and grateful tomorrow maybe :) Oh and Sebastien had a great first day even though they did not have time to do any "fitness" but he is sure they will slot that in tomorrow! PRIORITIES!!!

Congratulations on making it through Lucy's first school day! Well done Suzy. They do grow up fast don't they? Wait for all the other 'firsts' that you'll encounter along the way.
