Okay so I am a food-nazi. I know it. My family knows it. And I don't apologize for it.
Mostly it is because I am picky about smell, texture and THE LOOK OF IT. (Gag, just looking at seafood I know I won't like it) There is also the health componant... which is big for me.
So... let me introduce you to a blog I found recently www.wordofwisdomliving.com Skip (the author) makes a suggestion a week for healthy changes that will get you eating more like your greatgrandparents (ie without all the white sugar, trans fats and white flour that we eat today). Change #1 was get rid of the soft drinks (well, you an have 1 a week if you have to) EASY! I never drink fizzy drinks anyway.
Change #2 is never buy deep fat fried food (unless your fish'n'chip shop people use lard) PANIC, the kids *love* f'n'c and I just know our provider uses oil. I've got 2 choices, get a lard pot (like Dad had when I was a kid) or convince them that oven chips are just as tasty (never gonna happen... trust me I've tried a thousand times. Bugger, the smelly ol' lard pot can live out in the fridge in the garage).
So friends, it's up to you.

Suz, I've been reading this blog this week too. Found it through a friend and I'm obsessed! He is such a great writer, but I feel his sympathy too. Trying to keep my sugar intake down is going to be a real challenge, but I want to make these changes! I really want to! In fact, I created a new waffle recipe so I can have a fun breakfast too on Sunday mornings....its on my food blog! Let's keep each other motivated!
oh my gosh! is'nt there a site that makes books from blogs because i want to make a book from your recipes!! i've never looked at it before but i'm hooked!!!! i have to make those waffles, and my kids are DEMANDING the rainbow jelly :) Skip is awesome. I am just now emailing him some photos of lard i bought this week. i just knew it was still available in the shops. everyone cooked with lard here until the 80s... i know i need to do something about my sugar consumption but i love icecream and chocolate! in your spare time feel free to work on some chocolate icecream dishes made of honey and wholegrains will ya? merci! it is just so easy to be lazy with food and eat what is quick and tasty, but that is just not a suitable way to live. sigh. and i still run 5km as often as possible (ie several times a week) but i **have** to have a nap. i wonder when i'm old enough to cut back and just do yoga and little cardio? hmmmm, bring it on. xx
